Sad news for all those who remember The Monkees. Peter Tork the bands bassist has passed away at the age of 77. The Daily News reports his sister Anne Thorkelson did not specify the cause of death earlier Thursday but confirmed his passing. The actor, singer, songwriter and bassist was diagnosed with a rare form of tongue cancer back in 2009. Peter was the eldest cast member of The Monkees and wrote many of their songs including a number of tunes for their 1968 movie Head which had feature cameos from the likes of Jack Nicholson, Frank Zappa and Dennis Hopper. After The Monkees left the air Peter became a sensation in Japan and was the mastermind behind Monkees Merchandise.
