It’s Science! Why Most People Are Right-Handed

Have you ever wondered why most people are right-handed, but some random people end up favoring their left? A new study published by PLOS Biology took an in-depth look into that very question. Researchers from the University of Oxford determined that hand favoritism is likely tied to “key features that make us human, especially walking upright and the evolution of larger brains.” Upright walking freed the hands from “the work of locomotion,” which they say “created new evolutionary pressure for specialized, lateralized hand use.” Statistically, about 90% of the world’s population is right-handed.
