We still have a couple of weeks before the Easter Bunny hops into town, but Instacart is giving us a peek into what’s filling those baskets. Their Easter Trends Report has just come out, highlighting the most popular candies and staples for the holiday.
Instacart looked at what customers added to their carts the week before Easter last year to see how Americans celebrated.
- Easter basket items dominated orders, with Easter decor, including grass and plastic eggs, skyrocketed 2,742% above the yearly average.
- Jelly beans saw one of the biggest candy spikes of the season, with orders surging 863% above average.
- Basket fillers like stuffed animals and plush toys were up 380%, bubbles jumped 593% and chalk orders were up 475%.
- For many people across the country, Easter weekend doubles as a spring reset for home and garden. Orders for soil spiked 128%, mulch was up 133%, and annual plant orders increased 157%.
- When it comes to Easter dinner, ham roast is the most popular main course (orders up 315%), followed by leg of lamb (up 287%), and rack of lamb (up 148%).
- Blooms are big for the holiday as well, with orders for fresh cut tulips climbing 491% and fresh cut lilies jumping 464%.
- But the real star of Easter baskets is the candy and one reigns supreme. Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs are the favorite overall, topping the list in 38 states, making them Instacart’s top-selling Easter candy for the fourth year in a row.
