Former Disney Star Launches AI App That Lets You Talk To Dead Relatives

Ah yes; it’s only natural to turn to a Disney star when you want to talk to your dead relatives. Former “Austin and Ally” star Calum Worthy is facing backlash after launching an AI app called 2wai that lets people create digital versions of dead loved ones. The app's viral promotional video shows a pregnant woman talking to an AI recreation of her deceased mother, who then appears throughout the child's life, giving advice and support. The tagline says "with 2wai, three minutes can last forever," meaning users can record a short video of someone to create their avatar.

People immediately compared the app to a "Black Mirror" episode where a woman uses AI to talk to her dead boyfriend, and social media users are calling the concept "vile," "demonic," and "psychotic." The app is currently free during its beta testing phase, but will later require a subscription. Worthy, who played Dez on "Austin and Ally," says the company is building a "living archive of humanity."
