The largest great white shark ever recorded by a research team is near a popular spot in New Jersey. A marine research group, called OCEARCH, is reporting the shark, named Contender, has been detected just miles from Atlantic City. Contender is reported to be over 16 hundred pounds, 13 feet long and is believed to be about 32 years old. The predator was first tagged back in January, in waters near the Florida- Georgia line, and has pinged the research group more than 40 times since he's been headed north. The shark has traveled over four-thousand miles since being tagged and swam from Florida to Canada before deciding to stay put for now in New Jersey waters.
