Holiday Inn Express Adds Scent-Based Alarm Clocks To Rooms

Holiday Inn Express has launched a world-first scent-based alarm clock at hotels across Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and select locations in Singapore and Thailand. Starting October 20th, guests can choose to be woken up by breakfast smells instead of loud beeping sounds. The diffuser-style alarm clock offers different scents based on location, including coffee, bacon, and blueberry muffin in Australia and New Zealand, pear in Japan, and mango in Singapore and Thailand.

The idea came from research showing that 58 percent of travelers in Asia Pacific say pleasant smells help them feel better when waking up, especially while traveling. When asked which scents would improve their morning mood, people picked coffee or tea, bacon and eggs, baked goods, and fresh fruit. The Breakfast Alarm Clock is available for a limited time and ties into the brand's free hot breakfast offer.
