Study: Eating Too Much Dairy Can Give You Nightmares

Scientists have found that eating too much dairy really can give people nightmares. Canadian researchers studied 1,082 students at MacEwan University to see if there's a link between what people eat and how well they sleep. They found that about a third of the students had regular nightmares, and women were more likely to remember their dreams and report poor sleep.

The big finding was a strong link between lactose intolerance and nightmares. The researchers think this happens because people who can't digest lactose well might get gas or stomach pain during the night, which messes with their dreams. About 40-percent of students said they thought eating late at night or certain foods affected their sleep. Most people who blamed food for bad dreams pointed to sweets, spicy foods, or dairy as the problem.

The study suggests that people with food sensitivities might be able to sleep better by changing what they eat. This could explain why so many people have always blamed cheese for causing bad dreams.
