There’s a reason why “Release the bees!” would be a terrifying battle cry. Spanish police stopped a 70-year-old beekeeper near Cervera for driving without a seat belt. After a breath test showed alcohol, officers asked him to repeat it. He cursed, threatened them, opened his van, and released a swarm of honeybees. Both officers were stung many times and hid in a restaurant until help arrived. The driver fled but was caught soon after and later freed on bail. Doctors treated the officers, and local reports say the man may already be cleared of assault, though that is not confirmed.
