Sparkling water has some pros and cons according to a new study. The fizzy drink, along with a balanced diet and regular exercise could have a small impact on weight. The carbon dioxide in sparkling water can cause a process that boosts how much glucose the body uses, meaning less sugar is left behind as fat. That's according to a study out of Japan. It also points out, however, that sparkling water can cause bloating and gas as well as exacerbate conditions like reflux disease or irritable bowel syndrome.
