Baby Names “Heading For Extinction” In 2025

Don’t expect to see a lot of Jadens and Erins in your baby’s class when they finally reach school age. They’re among the names that we’ll be seeing less of in the future, according to Baby Center, which analyzed name registries to find those with the biggest declines. Basically, the names no one is giving their newborns anymore.

"To kick off 2025, BabyCenter looked at the names that are sharply declining in popularity and could be headed for extinction this year," the parenting site shares. "These are the names we expect to see much less of this year as Generation Beta babies are born."

  • According to these baby name experts, millennial names, like Chelsea, Kendra, Alexis and Taylor are out.
  • So are names inspired by members of the royal family, including Catherine, Anne, Phillip, Albert and Edward.
  • Other names are just falling in popularity, like Jaden, Daniel, William and Kaitlyn, all of which Baby Center says have seen a steep decline.

  • Jamie - Down 320 spots, the biggest drop for girls names
  • Katie - Down 290 spots
  • Remy - Down 277 spots
  • Liv - Down 257 spots
  • Analia - Down 245 spots

The Least Popular Names for Boys in 2025

  • Jamal - Down by 433 spots, the biggest drop for boys
  • Esteban - Down 283 spots
  • Cannon - Down 268 spots
  • Emery - Down 241 spots
  • Taylor - Down 199 spots
