U2 is marking the 20th anniversary of their 2004 album, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, with its shadow album, How To Re-Assemble An Atomic Bomb, and it comes with previously unreleased tracks which fans can now hear, including "Country Mile" and "Picture Of You (X + W)."
How To Re-Assemble An Atomic Bomb is a collection of ten tracks, including the new, previously un-released, songs that were recently discovered from the original album sessions. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb has also now been remastered for the first time, including bonus track "Fast Cars."
In an interview with iHeartRadio's Jim Kerr, U2's The Edge opened up about how they unearthed the material for How To Re-Assemble An Atomic Bomb, and he explained that after going back into his archive of recordable CDs from the early 2000s, he discovered a "treasure trove" of songs. He recalled:
"I had all these weekly CDs there, and as I was going through the different outtakes, I realized we have an actual treasure trove of incredible material here, and some of these songs were so good. I was asking myself, 'Why didn't this make the album?' This is right up there with some of the best songs that we had from that era. And at the time, I think we just ran out of road, we had a deadline. We were in a very creative period, but when it comes to the final crunch, you got to go with the tracks that are ready. And some of these were just needing lyric final lyrics, final vocals, final mixes."
