Plans To Build “Titanic II” Are Under Way. What Could Go Wrong?

It’s not often an idea comes along that you know is bad just from the headline. Billionaire Clive Palmer is reviving his idea to build a “Titanic II.” Ten years ago, Palmer first announced his intention to build a sequel to the doomed ocean liner. That plan was sunk (see what we did there?) when a payment dispute between one of Palmer’s companies and the Chinese company Citic caused funding to dry up. Now, a decade later, Palmer has once again announced his plan to build a vessel “far, far superior than the original.” He hired a room at the Sydney Opera House yesterday to let the world know his vision of building a to-scale replica of the famed ship. Palmer is hoping for the ship’s maiden voyage (from Southampton to New York - replicating the ill-fated 1912 voyage of the original) – to launch in June 2027.
