Every Wednesday at 5:30 a.m., Joan Irvine woke up and began the four-hour process of doing her hair for the week. The required tools included a brush, four different kinds of rollers and enough hairpins to raise the suspicion of airport security.
Joan was stuck in the 1950s for nearly 40 years. She never went without her signature beehive hairdo. She basically treated it like her baby.
