U.S. Delegation Heads to North Korea to Prepare for Potential Summit

A delegation consisting of U.S. officials has traveled to North Korea ahead of a proposed meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, CNN reports

One of the officials in the group included US Ambassador to the Philippines, Sung Kim, making this the clearest sign that the meeting is back on track.

The delegation that entered North Korea on Sunday is focused on the substance of the talks, senior officials with knowledge of the situation tell CNN.

The summit, which was proposed for June 12 in Singapore, was called off by President Trump last week after he cited hostile comments from top North Korean officials and concern over whether the reclusive nation will give up its nuclear weapons.

On Friday, Trump appeared to reopen the possibility for the talks to continue in a tweet that said his administration was having "very productive talks" with North Korea.

We are having very productive talks with North Korea about reinstating the Summit which, if it does happen, will likely remain in Singapore on the same date, June 12th., and, if necessary, will be extended beyond that date.

The news of the U.S. delegation crossing into North Korea comes following a surprise meeting between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Kim on Saturday. Moon said Sunday that Kim is committed to a summit with President Trump and complete denuclearization.
